Designing Multimedia Content - Deep Dive into Multimedia Space

Course Summary

This course aims to introduce teachers, and professional associates of pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools, principals, and other school staff to the main topics of design in multimedia space and to understand the basics of multimedia. The course refers to multimedia learning and learning with multimedia. It is a new trend in education and teachers should bridge the gap by learning to use and adapt existing resources as well as to create their own to enhance and stimulate students’ learning. 

The world in which we live is changing rapidly and the field of education is experiencing these changes in particular as it applies to media services. 

It’s a big challenge for teachers who primarily require access to learning resources, which can support concept development by learners in a variety of ways to meet individual learning needs.  

Integrating ICT and multimedia in schools can tremendously change the existing learning principles. The use of multimedia means more student-centred work and flexible schedules. At the same time, the teacher’s role changes from authority to the facilitator and conductor aspect.  

In the course, participants will acquire a theoretical and practical understanding of the most effective free software and application for meaning and producing multimedia content in education.

Course Detailed Description

Multimedia combines five basic types of media into the learning environment: text, video, sound, graphics, and animation, thus providing a powerful new tool for education, and is an advanced technology that facilitates the integration of different inputs in digital form. 

The ability to share knowledge collaboratively with others in a world where most products are the result of teamwork, having the appropriate strategies and knowing why and how to apply them will be among the most important qualifications within lifelong learning.

The importance of multimedia technologies and applications in education as a teaching or learning tool cannot be over-emphasized. It is essential to understand the main idea and value of multimedia learning and to use it in everyday teaching. At the same time, the key to successful multimedia education is the adequate use of digital tools.  

Getting familiar with multimedia learning strategies will help and contribute to multimedia learning and multimedia education.  

Digital tools, applications and software are essential in the consolidation of all multimedia elements, following the pedagogical approach and learning strategies with multimedia. While doing so it is important to combine the different elements of the cognitive processes so as to achieve the best learning outcomes.  

The main goal of this course is to get familiar with multimedia and multimedia learning strategies, and digital tools to design matching multimedia content.  

Other course goals are:  

·         get to know more about multimedia and understand the basics of multimedia 

·         get acquainted with multimedia learning and learning with multimedia 

·         understand the pedagogical approach to multimedia learning 

·         be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of multimedia in education 

·         learn how to use adequate digital tools as support in multimedia education 

·         enhance collaboration and networking  

·         create multimedia content  

·         analyse and evaluate the Course project

Day 4

  • Creating educational multimedia content 

  • Bit-by-bit to multimedia

Day 5

  • Critical and reflective use of educational multimedia 

  • Course wrap-up – How to design multimedia educational content and use it in the classrooms?
